CRASH 2 Web Video: TRANMAN (2011)

From July to the end of October this year I’ve been working on a 40 second web animation called TRANMAN (2011), which tells the story of a bleeding car crash victim, whose life is saved by a timely injection.

The web video was commissioned by Dr. Ian Roberts of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine to promote the results of the international clinical trial CRASH-2. The trial, coordinated by Dr. Roberts, compared 20,000 trauma patients at hospitals in 40 countries. The results showed that a prompt injection of a low cost drug called Tranexamic Acid (TXA) could reduce death by haemorrhage by 30%. Low profit drugs, such as TXA, do not receive big advertising budgets; Dr. Roberts therefore hoped a web video would help spread the word amongst Doctors.

Posted on YouTube in November 2011, TRANMAN has gained considerable viewing figures across the different language versions (Chinese, English, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish). The enterprise also obtained significant press coverage, including articles in the New York Times, The Lancet and IMAGINE Animation Magazine. Altogether, the video transmission helped fuel fresh debate about the treatment, thus helping to influence an official marketing campaign from the manufacturer.

2010 Animation Showreel

Here is my 2010 stop-motion animation showreel, which includes a selection of my animations from the last year and a half at Bristol School of Animation.

The showreel includes exercises, research, experiments and a few clips that I animated for the film 'The Busker,' which I made in collaboration with fellow animation students Becky Berry and Max Martin.

Wednesday, 25 August 2010

This short piece of animation is a walk test for a new character I'm developing based on the late Alan Smith, also known as Bear, a poetry busker who lived on the streets in Bristol.

MS Affect on Walking, Stop-motion Animation Action Analysis

Year 1 Action Analysis Open Breif at Bristol School of Animation:

This short piece of animation action analysis explores the affect MS (Multiple Scelrosis) has on my mothers ability to walk. She suffers from a type of MS that relapses, meaning that it does not gradually get worse overtime, but rather comes back and forth once in a while depending on the conditions.

The effect metaphorically speaking is rather like when a computer has to do too many things at the same time, causing a trafffic jam of messages that leads to the computer to slow down. This piece of animation demonstrates, the immediate physical affect MS can have on my Mother when walking.

This is a subject I would like to continue to work on in the future, and hopefully one day make a short film, which helps people understand the physical and physcological effects of MS on the both the sufferer and their families.
